this should have been like 20k words shorter tbh. lots of kill your darlings type material. theres sooooo much repetition here oh my god. someones driving again. the same four phrases are being repeated over and over to really hammer you over the head with themes that the author really wants you to know are there, even when they kind of arent. so much of the middle is boring as hell because of all this. it starts really strong. the mystery is interesting, but ultimately peters into a lot of lazy plot work. harry is a terrible detective lol. but the start is really really hooky and the very end is pretty good, especially the epilogue. though i do always find it strange when stories about adults falling in love are utterly sexless, and this is that in spades. ive been trying to read more fic without smut but this one really needed it, unfortunately. all that said, the atmosphere throughout the entire thing was spellbinding. it was just hampered by the terrible pacing and repetition. ah, well.
