hm. mixed feelings on this one. i liked a lot of the writing and the humor, but the characterization was so over-the-top that it really started to grate. i didn't really like the way the author wrote either of the characters. tbh. they felt too distinct from the canon, and not ina good way. i know this one's a classic, so i'm glad i read it, but it was pretty much the definition of mid for me. the plot was *wild* in a bad way, in the sense that it sets up this mystery and then has no one do anything competent about it in favor of more pining. why include any of the worldbuilding if you're not going to do anything with it but resolve it in a single boring scene? whatever. at least i enjoyed the tone when it wasn't beating me over the head!
