i found this on a reddit thread about literary fanfics with really good writing, so i was kinda disappointed. it was certainly decent writing, and geno's voice was very good, but it really lacked that... spark. i dont know if i can be more specific tbh. it wasnt particularly touching. in many ways it felt clinical and held at a distance from emotion, which was maybe even intentional, given sid's headspace, but it didn't work for me. and despite the writing being good to occassionally pretty inspired, it also fell back on cliches, butchered commas, and pulled its punches with soft adverbs (a little, etc). it felt vaguely like i was reading something in the handmaids tale universe most of the time. bah.
Description:
Sid knew how to smile. He knew how to make the muscles work, how to soften his face into something less rigid. Geno liked him happy. If he wanted Sid easy and pleasant, here at the end, Sid could give him that. Geno asked so little of him.
